Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia, commonly referred to as male breasts, involves the excessive growth of breast tissue in males, often stemming from an imbalance in hormone levels. Elevated estrogen levels, characteristic of female hormones, can surpass androgens, the male hormones, contributing to this condition.
The development of gynecomastia can be linked to various factors, including the use of medications and drugs such as antibiotics, anabolic steroids, narcotic drugs, and anti-anxiety medicine. Additionally, low testosterone levels, obesity, liver disease, chronic kidney failure, and hyperthyroidism are associated with this condition.
Male Breast Reduction Surgery is a viable solution, incorporating techniques like Vaser Pro Liposculpture to address excess fat and the excision of surplus breast tissue. In cases where needed, the procedure may also encompass J Plasma Renuvion Skin Tightening for optimal results.

VASER Liposuction treatment for Male Breast Reduction
VASER Liposculpture stands out as a proven and widely embraced technique for male breast reduction, aiming to eliminate excess fatty and breast tissue. This method employs ultrasound waves to break down fat cells, facilitating their removal through a small suction tube. This day procedure not only offers advanced body contouring but also boasts minimal invasiveness.
What sets the VASER Lipo procedure apart is its remarkable ability to distinguish targeted fat from crucial surrounding tissues like nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. By utilizing innovative Vaser technology, the procedure effectively breaks up fat while preserving these essential structures.
Will Vaser Pro Liposuction give my desired results?
The approach to addressing enlarged breasts varies based on the severity of the condition. While some patients may find relief with Vaser Pro Lipo alone, others may necessitate a combination of treatments such as Vaser Pro Lipo, Breast Tissue Excision, and J Plasma Renuvion Skin Tightening, or possibly a surgical breast lift. The determination of the most suitable treatment plan is made during an individual consultation with Dr. Glenn Murray.
For those who have experienced uneven reductions in the chest area compared to other parts of the body after weight loss, concerns about loose skin can be addressed uniquely. In Perth, our clinic stands out as a provider of J Plasma Renuvion Skin Tightening, offering a solution for patients who perceive loose skin as an aftermath of weight loss.

What happens before your Perth Male Breast Reduction procedure?
In accordance with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) protocol, it is a prerequisite to obtain a GP referral for all cosmetic surgical procedures before scheduling a consultation with Dr. Glenn Murray. Additionally, a Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) questionnaire will need to be completed to assess your suitability for the procedure. To facilitate informed discussions and address any questions you may have, informational videos will be sent to your designated email prior to your meeting with Dr. Murray. Following a second consultation with a member of our clinical team, a mandatory 7-day cooling off period will commence. During this time, we strongly encourage you to seek further information and education regarding your desired procedure, as well as consider obtaining a second opinion. After the 7-day cooling off period, you are welcome to proceed with scheduling your procedure and embark on your Absolute Cosmetic journey.
It is imperative to strictly avoid smoking, vaping, and illicit drug use before, during, and after the procedure. Nicotine consumption during the surgical process heightens the risk of complications, infection, delayed healing, or an unsatisfactory cosmetic outcome. Please note that we maintain a stringent cancellation policy for those who continue to smoke or vape. We advise all patients to cease smoking at least 2 weeks before the procedure and to abstain for 6 weeks following the procedure. Reducing nicotine intake does not diminish the risk of complications; the most substantial health benefit is derived from quitting smoking altogether. We highly recommend and encourage the use of nicotine cessation aids during this period. For more comprehensive information regarding potential complications and guidance on quitting smoking, please refer to this resource.
It is vital to note that if you have smoked within the last 2 weeks, the procedure will be canceled, and payment will not be refunded.
To ensure your readiness for the procedure, being in good health is essential. It’s crucial to avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, fish oil, green tea, and turmeric leading up to the procedure. Additionally, a blood test should be conducted at least 1 week before the scheduled procedure. A nurse will go through an extensive checklist to ensure that you are well prepared, via a pre-operative call before your procedure day.
On the day of the procedure, fasting is mandatory, meaning you should refrain from consuming food or water for 6 hours prior to your scheduled surgical start time. However, you may take a small sip of water in the morning to consume any pre-surgery medication if necessary. These precautions are taken to optimize your safety and the success of the procedure. All paperwork must be completed before the procedure and will be sighted and signed by your admitting surgical nurse.
Male Breast Reduction procedure
The procedure
The surgical procedure is conducted as a day-case, meaning patients are admitted in the morning/early afternoon and discharged later in the afternoon. The duration of the procedure varies based on factors like the size and number of areas being treated. Following the surgery, patients transition to the recovery phase and are released to go home with a patient nominated caregiver for rest. A follow-up appointment is scheduled for the very next day to assess the progress.
At Absolute Cosmetic, our commitment revolves around delivering patient-centered care with an emphasis on minimizing discomfort. To achieve this, the majority of our patients undergo the procedure under sedation, ensuring a more comfortable experience.
The Risks
The risks associated with male breast reduction surgery, also known as gynecomastia surgery, include but not limited to infection, bleeding, hematoma (collection of blood under the skin), seroma (collection of fluid under the skin), changes in nipple or breast sensation, scarring, asymmetry (unevenness) of the chest, contour irregularities, damage to deeper structures such as nerves, blood vessels, or muscles or blood clots to name a few.
When consulting with our clinical team, we will discuss all risks and complications that could occur. However, we urge you to ensure you follow all pre and post operative instructions to minimize complications.
Male Breast Reduction recovery and aftercare
After the procedure, it is typical to experience pain and discomfort in the initial days. Noticeable improvement is often observed within the first week, although swelling may persist for up to six weeks. On average, the final results become apparent around the three-month mark, with some individuals experiencing positive changes as early as one month. However, for certain patients, achieving the ultimate outcome may extend to a period of up to 12 months. This timeline variation is influenced by a variety of individual contributing factors, the extent of the procedure, and the body’s unique response to the healing process.
Recovery time can vary from patient to patient; however, most patients do return to normal activities within 5-7 days post-procedure. Light exercise is typically recommended after one week, progressing to moderate exercise at two weeks, and full resumption of regular activities at three to four weeks. However, caution is advised with extreme exercise, which should be avoided for a period ranging from 6 to 12 weeks after the procedure. These guidelines are designed to promote a gradual and safe return to physical activities, ensuring optimal healing and results.
