What is Fat Transfer to the Breast?

Fat Transfer to the Breast offers a lasting approach to breast enhancement through the use of the patient’s own fat. This method can be undertaken independently or in conjunction with Breast Implants. The procedure involves harvesting fat from a targeted area, processing it, and subsequently injecting the fat cells into the breasts for augmentation. It’s essential to be aware that, given the use of the patient’s own fat cells, there is a potential for natural metabolic processes to occur, necessitating the consideration of potential top-up treatments over time.

Fat transfer to the breast.

Fat transfer to breasts, Vaser liposuction upper and lower abdomen & waist, Before and 1 month after

Cosmetic surgery for the breasts ranks among the most sought-after procedures globally. While breast augmentation with implants remains a prevalent method for surgical breast enhancement, there are alternative options. Achieving improved breast shape, size, and symmetry is possible by utilizing one’s own fat. This approach is especially favored by individuals seeking a combination of body contouring procedures, such as liposuction, along with breast enhancement.

Is Fat Transfer permanent?

While fat transfer is generally regarded as a lasting procedure, there are factors that may impact the outcomes. The body has the tendency to reabsorb some of the transferred fat cells, and the extent of this reabsorption varies among individuals. The exact number of cells reabsorbed cannot be determined until after the procedure. Following the initial treatment, some patients may opt for a top-up, and in a few cases, a second top-up may be necessary. It’s important to note that any subsequent weight loss can influence the results, as the fat cells may shrink in size, and additional considerations, such as smoking, may further impact the metabolism of the transferred fat, potentially affecting the overall outcome.

Who is a suitable candidate for Fat Transfer to the Breast?

Optimal health is a prerequisite for any surgical or invasive procedure. Individuals who typically make suitable candidates for this particular procedure include:

  • Those aiming to augment their breast size by 1-2 cup sizes without resorting to implants
  • Individuals seeking a result that is both natural-looking and feeling
  • Those with surplus body fat in other areas that can be extracted and transferred
  • Individuals desiring enhanced breast symmetry
  • Those in search of a subtle lift or a restoration of lost volume in their breasts

It’s important to note that the fat transfer will not be injected directly into the breast tissue but rather in front of and behind it. This precautionary measure, rooted in historical concerns about a potential link between fat injection into breast tissue and increased breast cancer risk, is still observed. While current understanding suggests this association is unlikely, this precaution is maintained for added safety.

What happens during Your Perth Fat Transfer to the Breast Procedure?

The procedure entails transferring fat from a designated area of the body to the breasts. Dr. Murray initiates the process by utilising Vaser Pro Liposuction to extract a portion of fat. Some patients choose to remove more fat than necessary for the transfer, aiming to enhance overall body contours. Once the fat is processed, it is then injected into the breasts. The method of introducing the fat through injection results in significantly fewer scars and less downtime compared to a conventional breast augmentation procedure.

important information on fat transfer to breast

In accordance with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) protocol, it is a prerequisite to obtain a GP referral for all cosmetic surgical procedures before scheduling a consultation with Dr. Glenn Murray. Additionally, a Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) questionnaire will need to be completed to assess your suitability for the procedure. To facilitate informed discussions and address any questions you may have, informational videos will be sent to your designated email prior to your meeting with Dr. Murray. Following a second consultation with a member of our clinical team, a mandatory 7-day cooling off period will commence. During this time, we strongly encourage you to seek further information and education regarding your desired procedure, as well as consider obtaining a second opinion. After the 7-day cooling off period, you are welcome to proceed with scheduling your procedure and embark on your Absolute Cosmetic journey.

It is imperative to strictly avoid smoking, vaping, and illicit drug use before, during, and after the procedure. Nicotine consumption during the surgical process heightens the risk of complications, infection, delayed healing, or an unsatisfactory cosmetic outcome. Please note that we maintain a stringent cancellation policy for those who continue to smoke or vape. We advise all patients to cease smoking at least 2 weeks before the procedure and to abstain for 6 weeks following the procedure. Reducing nicotine intake does not diminish the risk of complications; the most substantial health benefit is derived from quitting smoking altogether. We highly recommend and encourage the use of nicotine cessation aids during this period. For more comprehensive information regarding potential complications and guidance on quitting smoking, please refer to this resource.

It is vital to note that if you have smoked within the last 2 weeks, the procedure will be canceled, and payment will not be refunded.

To ensure your readiness for the procedure, being in good health is essential. It’s crucial to avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, fish oil, green tea, and turmeric leading up to the procedure. Additionally, a blood test should be conducted at least 1 week before the scheduled procedure. A nurse will go through an extensive checklist to ensure that you are well prepared, via a pre-operative call before your procedure day.

On the day of the procedure, fasting is mandatory, meaning you should refrain from consuming food or water for 6 hours prior to your scheduled surgical start time. However, you may take a small sip of water in the morning to consume any pre-surgery medication if necessary. These precautions are taken to optimize your safety and the success of the procedure. All paperwork must be completed before the procedure and will be sighted and signed by your admitting surgical nurse.
